UC Irvine Law School Scandel

I have been listening to Hugh Hewitt's radio show on September 12, 2007.  Forgive me for a possibly tardy post, but we are subject to KLUP 930 AM's delayed broadcast in San Antonio, Texas.
UC Irvine Law School's betrayal of Professor Chemerinski is troublesome on several levels. In the first place its authorized agents have admitted that the Professor has outstanding qualifications and is competent to serve as the law school's dean.  A public university's contracting process is not frivolous.  There can be no question that the execution was authorized by the school's governing body. He was the first choice of the university.   Second, UC Irvine Chancellor's statement concedes that the rescission was not predicated on any material basis.  So then, a state university has breached a contract without just cause.  That's bad enough, but those who excuse the action because of fund raising strategies and political philosophy really scare me.  At some point intellectual integrity, respect for the legal process and common decency cries out, "A DEAL is a Deal!"  Where is the notion of fair play?

For all the criticism we rightfully level at the politically promiscuous, the biased media,,and the many other saboteurs of the true American character how can we justify this action for even a moment?
